Rest & refuel
Starting in the vibrant town of Peebles, Wild Tweed 200 connects the iconic trails of the Tweed with the neighbouring Ettrick and Yarrow valleys.
From Peebles, the trail travels to the furthest reaches of Glentress Forest where an atmospheric wind farm and fine views of the Pentland Hills reward. Expansive gravel tracks then give way to a fast-flowing section of ‘the Granites road’, where the world’s fastest will ramp up their speeds on the opening stage of the Tour de France next year. The trail weaves its way through the peaceful grounds of Scotland’s oldest inhabited house, before heading high into the forests and glens of the Tweed Valley Forest Park towards the Three Brethren – meeting place of three ancient lands.
A thrilling/challenging/techy descent brings you back to ground in the spectacular Ettrick Valley, with the rolling hills and grassy terrain of the grand Buccleuch Estate providing some easier riding miles. A welcome section of tarmac snakes through the gorgeous valley beyond, preparing the legs for an ancient climb that lifts the trail high above St Mary’s Loch and Loch of the Lowes. After skirting the banks of the Scottish Borders’ largest body of water – a beautiful sight at any time of year – there’s a beefy climb and the route’s most technical descent to endure before arriving back on Tweed Valley ground.
The mystical Meldons and a celebrated UNESCO river project brings the wild journey to a close, back where it all began.
