A message from the Tourism BID Steering Group

We would like to thank the many business owners that have worked with us over the past 18 months, all of whom have contributed greatly to the development of our five-year business plan for the Tweed Valley Tourism BID. Led by tourism businesses, it’s a plan with the clear objective of turning the Tweed Valley into a world-class activity destination - with benefits for all.

As a Steering Group, we have listened carefully during the consultation process and understand how ambitious you are to grow your businesses. We believe that, by working together, we can deliver a real return on your investment and we will monitor the success of all our activities.   

We will prioritise strong marketing and promotion through building the Tweed Valley brand and carrying out targeted marketing campaigns. We will help existing events and festivals grow further, and develop new high-quality events in the area. We will also attract more business and incentive tourism year-round, with a particular emphasis on the shoulder months, and will work to improve tourism infrastructure and facilities in partnership with other agencies.

Just as crucially, a Tourism BID will enable businesses to shape the future of tourism in the area, advocating on local issues and being at the heart of the decision-making process.

After 18 months of close consultation with local businesses, we are now on the home stretch ... with ballot papers sent on 3 October, businesses have six weeks in which to cast their votes.

It’s been a long road, but we are now almost there. We’ve consulted closely with local tourism businesses to see how YOU would like to see the tourism industry develop here in the Tweed Valley. Following that consultation, we have prepared a comprehensive, five-year business plan which we now put before you to consider ahead of voting in the Tourism BID ballot. All votes must be cast by the deadline of 5pm on 14 November.

If approved, the scheme will enable Scottish Borders Council to collect a compulsory levy from all the businesses involved over an initial five-year period, with the funds invested in delivering the agreed plan.
